Finding Jesus

Our youngest college-aged child recently said, “Mom, I’ve started looking for Jesus in my life, and I feel like He’s VERY involved in what I’m doing.” She then began to list a collection of “non-coincidental” stories.

Bread was given to her when she just ran out.

Being told she was “heaven sent” when she was able to teach a concept to a confused group of students because she followed a feeling to go to that lab right then.

A random stranger complimenting her hair and showing her a new, quiet study location on a low self-esteem day.

Divine help in managing time so that scripture study and temple attendance aren’t dropped even while working to understand and internalize weekly volumes of information in challenging classes.

Unexpected gifts showing up on her birthday when she was pretty sure no one but her family knew it was “her day” — -the list went on and on.

“Well, this is a mental/spiritual path I haven’t walked down in awhile. Perhaps I’ll start looking for Jesus in my own little existence too,” I thought.

And I found Him!

We are expecting a baby in August; that’s a miracle in and of itself.

A sudden break in health on a Saturday morning caused an SOS message to a friend. With very little explanation on my part, that dear woman dropped all her Saturday plans to take my place in driving a van full of teenage girls to an activity they had planned months ago. To me, that’s God sending an angel to assist in time of need.

After a day full of extra projects, I was pretty much dead on my feet at 5:30. One prayer in my heart later, I was up finishing dinner, running kids to play practice, and finally getting around to cutting those seven heads of boy hair that have been needing attention for weeks. That unexpected second wind was Divine grace.

While reviewing the day’s events as I prepared for bed, being corrected by the Holy Ghost on how I could have handled a situation and an upset child differently. Jesus was there, too.

The Bible Dictionary teaches, “Through faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and repentance of their sins, (individuals) receive strength and assistance to do good works that they otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to their own means.” 1

How grateful I am that we are not left to work through life on our own. Our Savior is very involved “in the details of the details of the details of our lives”. 2
