Gift or Grump?

"You’re supposed to be asleep, Kid. It’s the middle of the night."
This was the third round of care in a short period of time for a child who usually sleeps eight consecutive hours. Mom’s nocturnal patience was fizzling out.
With blue eyes locked on my face and small hands folded daintily on top of her blanket, she met my growl with a beaming grin.
Ack, how can I be upset with such a doll of a baby?
Snuggling into the recliner with our happy night owl in the crook of my arm, I held her little hand and bumped her nose with my own. A short cuddle later, Baby fell asleep smiling.
Watching her peaceful face, I wondered if maybe, just maybe, this small inconvenience was actually a gift of one-on-one time to be enjoyed instead of resented.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf has taught that "...those who set aside the bottle of bitterness and lift instead the goblet of gratitude can find a purifying drink of healing, peace, and understanding." 1
Grasping a smidgen of new understanding, I crawled back under my covers. With a soft heart and Divine help, perhaps I may find more gifts than reasons to grump as I walk through life.
