Tricked

Suddenly surrounded by crying little people, I looked up from feeding the baby with my eyebrows on the ceiling.
What is going on here?
One child was trying to laugh instead of cry, his face pinched. Whimpering, his sister brushed at the tears cruising down her cheeks. The three-yr-old was clawing at his tongue with raw abandon, howling and gagging.
Just then, our grinning third grader popped his head into the room announcing, "I think they ate a hot pepper!"
You think?
The situation did not end well for the smiling son.
All three of his hungry, bell pepper-loving siblings had eaten the offered green jalapeño pepper piece.
They were tricked.
Similarly, in our hunger for life satisfaction, "if we look to the world and follow its formulas for happiness, we will never know joy." 1 And we might get burned while tasting the results of those deceptive formulas!
On the other hand, "When we choose Heavenly Father to be our God and when we can feel the Savior’s Atonement working in our lives, we will be filled with joy." 1
No tricks!
