Turn Toward Home

Everyone needs a piglet on their doorstep to liven up their day.
One regular morning, the kids and I heard ghastly, guttural grunting sounds coming from the front step. Cautiously, we cracked open the door....and a pig snout snuffled it’s way toward us.
Gasp! The door was quickly shut.
Why is there a pig at the door?
The grunting became more insistent with occasional squeals added, for now the pig knew our location!
As it turned out, a runt pig with a hernia had been re-homed---to our home. (Being a veterinarian’s family grants us occasional surprises.) Having been bottle-fed it’s entire life, the pig knew that house=friends+food. Therefore, it quickly squeezed through a panel hole and stood on our doorstep, politely asking for both.
Based on past experiences and gut feelings, that pig took itself out of the unsightly wallow it had been placed in and went looking for home.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf once taught, "I believe that every man, woman, and child has felt the call of heaven at some point in his or her life. Deep within us is a longing to somehow reach past the veil and embrace Heavenly Parents we once knew and cherished.
"Some might suppress this yearning and deaden their souls to its call. But those who do not quench this light within themselves can embark on an incredible journey —a wondrous migration toward heavenly climes." 1
Based on past experiences and gut feelings, I, too, have felt that pull to walk away from the cares-of-this-world wallow and seek Heavenly Home connections.
How kind of a loving Father in Heaven to offer us spiritual "tastes" of Home!
Pondering and applying the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the scriptures and the words of living prophets allows us to step away and be cleansed and fed every day.
As the Prodigal Son of the New Testament taught us, there is no need to wallow indefinitely.
Just turn toward Home!
